Steering Problems Cars,Trucks,RV’s
Steering is one of the more important features of any car and if you can’t steer the car you probably are going to wreck the car. Steering problems can stem from all types of different effects such as tires, tire pressure, power steering fluid levels and a host of many other factors. The main thing that the Lemon Shopper does is give you the information available to find out why you are having steering problems.
Feel free to post any comments or experience you have had with your steering in your car or truck and let others know what experience you have had with either solving a particular problem or explaining a dyi on how to repair the problem
Issues in Power Steering
When power steering starts giving you trouble, its causes can be many. Following are some of the common causes.
Power Steering Fluid Leak
Whenever your power steering starts troubling you, the chances of it being a power steering fluid leak are very high. You might just get a feeling that the power steering is getting worse day by day, but it is happening very gradually. In that case, your car may be suffering from slow fluid leak. If your power steering suddenly stops working, this may be due to a blown power steering pump.
Power Steering Pump Noise
Power steering pump is the most important part of a power steering system. The fluid levels of the power steering pump have to be optimum. If it has not been changed for a while or the pump is experiencing any leak, then it is obvious that the pump will make power steering pump noise. If the pump is not experiencing any leak, then the existing liquid has worn out and is causing the problems.
Diagnosis and Troubleshooting of Power Steering Problems
Slow Leak
As stated before, if the power steering has a slow leak, it may be possible that you get a quick fix. Try to visually follow the entire power steering lines. Check the lines out from the point where you fill the fluid and gradually inspect the lines. Try to locate a point where you observe a cut or some oil outside the line. If you do find that point then, all you have to do is seal that cut with ‘stop-fix’. Once this is done then, you have to fill the fluid tank until the fluid level reaches the full point. One thing I must tell you over here is that this is only a quick fix for the problem. This problem is bound to return, maybe in a few days or maybe after a long time so do get it repaired by a mechanic.
Fast leak
If there is a fast leak, it does make sense for getting a professional mechanic to take a look. Most often than not, the lines (which can be inspected as mentioned above) have to be replaced. The lines can be found in you nearest automotive store.
